Home › Guides › How to import a bank statement into Xero
Xero imports statement lines from a CSV in its own column layout. When the bank only gives you a PDF, convert it to the Xero layout first — Date, Amount, Payee, Description — then import.
Amounts in the wrong sign (money out must be negative), dates in an unsupported format, and extra bank columns confusing the assignment screen. The converter's Xero export is laid out to Xero's specification to prevent these.
Where the statement prints opening and closing (or running) balances, the converter adds up the extracted transactions and compares the result with the statement itself. If the numbers do not tie, the conversion is flagged and the mismatched rows are marked — a failed check is never shown as a success.
No. Uploaded files and generated exports are stored only briefly to complete the download and are automatically deleted within 15 minutes.
