One row per transaction in plain UTF-8 text with the columns Date, Description, Amount, Debit, Credit and Balance. The Amount column is signed (money out is negative); Debit and Credit are also given separately for importers that expect them split.
CSV is the safe default when your software is not QuickBooks or Xero, when you are loading transactions into a script or database, or when you want a file every spreadsheet can open without formatting surprises.

Where the statement prints opening and closing (or running) balances, the converter adds up the extracted transactions and compares the result with the statement itself. If the numbers do not tie, the conversion is flagged and the mismatched rows are marked — a failed check is never shown as a success.
