How to download statements from Truist Bank

Statements first, spreadsheets second. What follows is how Truist Bank files its statements, how to download the exact periods a job requires, and how those PDFs become verified data.

Downloading a Truist Bank statement PDF, step by step

  1. Sign in on the website. Apps sometimes show a shorter archive than the full website. For older months, sign in on a computer first.
  2. Go to the account's documents area. Look for Statements, Documents or eStatements on the account page — the wording varies, the location does not: it hangs off the account, not the profile.
  3. Set the period, month by month. Download each closing month as a separate PDF. One combined printout blurs the per-month balances the reconciliation check relies on.
  4. Name files as you save them. A simple pattern — account, year, month — saves real time when a year of statements lands in one folder.
  5. Upload and convert. Add the PDFs to the converter above. Check each statement's reconciliation result as it comes back.
  6. Keep the originals untouched. Converted files are working copies. The bank-issued PDFs stay exactly as downloaded, as the record.

These are the general steps most banks follow for statement downloads; exact menu labels vary by bank and change over time.

Cycles, closing dates and archive depth

Statements close on a cycle date, not necessarily the last day of the month — note each account's closing day before planning a month-by-month import, because a statement month and a calendar month are not always the same thing. Online archives generally cover several years; deeper history is a bank research request, and scanned results still go through the full balance check.

Statement types across a big-bank account list

A national bank relationship usually spans several statement families: checking and savings with opening/closing balances, money market accounts on the same pattern, CDs that may statement quarterly or at term events, and credit cards on the Previous / New Balance pattern. Each family converts on its own check. Before a cleanup, inventory which families the relationship actually has — the card statements are the ones most often forgotten. Truist was formed from BB&T and SunTrust, so archives spanning the merger can mix two statement layouts — convert each era on its own and expect the older PDFs to read differently.

Before you download: a two-minute checklist

Downloading statements for someone else's books

If you are the client reading this because your bookkeeper or accountant asked for statements: download the full set in one sitting, every account and every month on their list, and send the PDFs exactly as the bank issued them. Do not photograph pages, do not merge months into one file, and do not edit anything out — a missing transaction is far more expensive than an embarrassing one, and your bookkeeper works under confidentiality either way. If a month is missing from the archive, say so; a known gap is a solvable problem.

Questions and answers

Can I download Truist Bank statements for my bookkeeper?

Yes — that is the normal flow. Download the PDFs and send them as issued; your bookkeeper converts and verifies them. Never send online banking passwords; statements are all a bookkeeper needs from the bank.

The archive shows a month missing. What happened?

Common causes: the account statemented quarterly in that period, the account was opened or closed mid-cycle, or the statement sits under a combined-statement view. Check the neighbouring months' balances — if they chain, the period is covered.

Do I need the app, or is the website enough?

Either reaches the statements, but the website's archive is often deeper and multi-month downloading is faster with a keyboard. Use the app for single recent months, the website for history.

What file should I send my accountant — PDF or converted?

Both. The PDF is the record; the converted Excel or CSV is the working file. Sending the pair means any figure can be traced back to the bank's own document in one step.

Does Truist Bank charge for old statements?

Recent statements in online banking are self-serve. Research copies of older or closed-account statements are a bank service and policies vary — ask before ordering a long history, and check the online archive first.
