A Rockland Trust month is not done when it is entered — it is done when it reconciles. Here is the workflow that proves each month, and how to hunt the difference when one does not.

A Rockland Trust statement typically shows the balance after each transaction on deposit accounts, so the closing figure can be traced row by row through the month. The institution is based in Hanover, Massachusetts; its statement archive is organized per account, newest period first.
Whatever the layout, the arithmetic underneath a statement is always the same shape: an opening figure, the period's transactions, and a closing figure the transactions must reproduce exactly. Reconciliation is the discipline of insisting on that proof for every month, in order. The converter runs the check at conversion time — totals first, then the running balance row by row — so a bad file is caught before it reaches the books, and the methodology page explains both checks in full.
These are the general steps most banks follow for statement downloads; exact menu labels vary by bank and change over time.
Reconciliation goes faster when you know the document's habits. On a Rockland Trust statement, check where fees and interest sit — inside the chronological flow or in a closing section of their own — because that is where unrecorded items hide. Confirm the statement's closing date matches the period you think you are closing; cycle dates drift from calendar months. And keep the source straight: reconcile against the statement filed under eStatements in Rockland Trust online banking and the mobile app, the bank's own record of the month.
The strongest property of a reconciled year is the chain: twelve statements where every closing balance hands over to the next opening balance without a seam. Build the chain and a whole class of errors — missing months, duplicated months, a statement converted twice — becomes impossible to hide. When a chain breaks, the break itself localizes the problem to the seam between two specific months, which is a five-minute investigation instead of a day of searching.
They check different things. The conversion check proves the file matches the statement; the software reconciliation proves the books match the file. Doing both, in that order, is what makes a month solid.
Either that transaction is missing from the file or it is in twice. Search the converted file for the amount: zero hits means a dropped row, two hits where the statement shows one means a duplicate.
A sign error: the transaction was read as money in when it was money out, or the reverse. The totals move by twice the amount because the correction has to both remove the wrong entry and add the right one.
The statement PDF, the converted file, and the reconciliation result for that month, filed together. That trio lets anyone re-perform the month later without asking you anything.
Usually not an error: running balances depend on the order transactions are walked, and the software may order same-day items differently from the bank. Agreement at the closing balance with every transaction present is the substance; mid-month ordering differences on the same posting date are cosmetic.
