BBVA statements to OFX: what you get

OFX is the interchange format desktop accounting software was built around. This export writes the BBVA transactions as an OFX file with statement and transaction structure intact, ready for the import routines in tools that accept .ofx or .qfx uploads.

The main use is rebuilding history in software after a bank feed has lapsed. Statements from Spain banks print dates as day/month/year, often written day.month.year — 03.04.2026 means 3 April 2026 and amounts with points or spaces for thousands and a comma for decimals (1.234,56) — the converter's locale-aware reader handles that layout, and then the reconciliation check proves the result: the extracted transactions must add up to the balances printed on the statement itself, or the conversion is flagged.

Every BBVA conversion is audited by the document it came from. The extracted transactions are totalled against the printed opening and closing balances and checked row by row against the running balance column where one is printed. A dropped row, a duplicated row or a misread digit breaks the chain and is flagged at the row where it breaks, with the expected and printed balances shown side by side.

Read a BBVA statement as three zones. The header zone names the account and the period — check those first, because a wrong-period PDF converts beautifully and reconciles against the wrong month. The middle zone is the transaction list itself. The closing zone carries the balances and any fees or interest summaries; it is the closing zone the reconciliation check answers to, and the first place to look when a conversion is flagged.

In Spain, bookkeepers commonly work in Sage and Holded; the Excel and CSV exports from this converter are the files those tools import, and the CSV export is laid out for direct import where the tool accepts it.

Keeping evidence with the conversion

File three things together for every {bank} month: the statement PDF, the converted file, and the reconciliation outcome. Anyone reviewing the work later — a partner, an auditor, a tax adviser — can re-perform the month from that trio without asking you anything.

Before you use the file

If your software offers both OFX import and a live bank feed for the same account, use one or the other for a given period, never both: the same transactions arriving twice is the most common cause of a doubled month.

How to download a statement PDF from BBVA

  1. Sign in and open the right account. BBVA customers with several accounts should download from each account separately — statements are issued per account.
  2. Open the account and find Statements or Documents. Look for Statements, Documents, Mailbox or eStatements in the account menu; the label differs by bank and changes over time.
  3. Choose the statement period. Download each period as its own file. The reconciliation check proves one statement at a time, which is what makes a long catch-up provable.
  4. Download the PDF version. A downloaded PDF carries the text layer the converter reads. If the portal only offers a print view, print to PDF instead of taking a picture.
  5. Run the conversion here. Drop the file into the converter above. Batch mode accepts the whole set of periods in one upload.

These are the general steps most banks follow for statement downloads; exact menu labels vary by bank and change over time.

Tip: if the bank offers both a statement PDF and a transaction-list PDF, take the statement — it is the one carrying the balances the reconciliation check needs.

Questions and answers

How do I convert a BBVA statement to OFX?

Download the statement PDF from BBVA online banking, upload it to the converter on this page, and download the an OFX-formatted export of the statement's transactions. The transactions are extracted, put into the same standard columns used for every bank, and checked against the statement's balances first.

What date and number formats do BBVA statements use?

Expect day/month/year, often written day.month.year — 03.04.2026 means 3 April 2026 dates and amounts with points or spaces for thousands and a comma for decimals (1.234,56) on a BBVA statement. The reader is locale-aware, so those conventions are handled rather than misread, and the output columns come out in the standard layout regardless.

What does the reconciliation check do?

Where the statement prints opening and closing (or running) balances, the converter adds up the extracted transactions and compares the result with the statement itself. If the numbers do not tie, the conversion is flagged and the mismatched rows are marked — a failed check is never shown as a success.

Which file should I upload — the PDF or a portal CSV export?

The statement PDF. It is the issued document and it carries the opening and closing balances the reconciliation check verifies against; a portal CSV has the transactions but nothing to prove them against.

Are amounts converted into another currency?

No. The converter changes layout, not currency: figures stay in € exactly as BBVA printed them.

Can I convert statements for several BBVA accounts?

Yes — convert each account's statements separately so each one reconciles against its own balances, then combine the exports in your software if you need a single view.

What if BBVA only offers paper statements?

Scan the statement as flat and straight as you can and upload the scan. OCR reads it, and the reconciliation check verifies the read against the printed balances; rows it cannot verify are flagged for a manual look.

How far back can I get BBVA statements?

That depends on the bank's portal — most keep at least a year of PDFs online, and older periods can usually be requested. However far back you go, download each period as its own PDF.

Are my statement files kept?

No. Uploaded files and generated exports are stored only briefly to complete the download and are automatically deleted within 15 minutes.
