Statements first, spreadsheets second. What follows is how Western Alliance Bank files its statements, how to download the exact periods a job requires, and how those PDFs become verified data.
Privacy: uploaded files and generated exports are stored only briefly to complete your download and are automatically deleted within 15 minutes. Files are never used for any other purpose.
These are the general steps most banks follow for statement downloads; exact menu labels vary by bank and change over time.
A month can be missing from an online archive for mundane reasons: the account opened or closed mid-cycle, the period statemented quarterly, or the document sits under a combined-statement view rather than the single account. Before concluding the month does not exist, check the neighbouring statements — if their balances chain across the gap, the period is covered by them. What genuinely cannot be downloaded can be requested as research copies from the bank.
Expect the standard regional-bank set: monthly statements for checking and savings with opening and closing balances and a running balance on most layouts, card statements on the Previous / New Balance pattern where the bank issues its own cards, and periodic statements for CDs and money market accounts. Each type converts separately, against its own balances. Western Alliance is business-focused; its statements carry the heavier ACH, wire and analysis-fee detail typical of commercial accounts.
If you are the client reading this because your bookkeeper or accountant asked for statements: download the full set in one sitting, every account and every month on their list, and send the PDFs exactly as the bank issued them. Do not photograph pages, do not merge months into one file, and do not edit anything out — a missing transaction is far more expensive than an embarrassing one, and your bookkeeper works under confidentiality either way. If a month is missing from the archive, say so; a known gap is a solvable problem.
After signing in to Western Alliance Bank online banking, open the account and look for Statements (or Documents / eStatements). The step-by-step section above walks the pattern; exact menu labels change over time.
It adds the extracted transactions to the statement's opening balance and compares the result with the closing balance — and checks running balances row by row where printed. Downloads that do not tie are flagged, never passed silently.
Yes — that is the normal flow. Download the PDFs and send them as issued; your bookkeeper converts and verifies them. Never send online banking passwords; statements are all a bookkeeper needs from the bank.
Common causes: the account statemented quarterly in that period, the account was opened or closed mid-cycle, or the statement sits under a combined-statement view. Check the neighbouring months' balances — if they chain, the period is covered.
Many banks offer a transaction download in CSV or OFX alongside the PDF statements. That covers recent activity, but the PDF statement remains the document with balances — the thing reconciliation is checked against.
