Everything starts with the PDF. Here is where SoFi Bank keeps its statements, how far back the archive reaches, and how to pull exactly the months you need.
Privacy: uploaded files and generated exports are stored only briefly to complete your download and are automatically deleted within 15 minutes. Files are never used for any other purpose.
These are the general steps most banks follow for statement downloads; exact menu labels vary by bank and change over time.
A month can be missing from an online archive for mundane reasons: the account opened or closed mid-cycle, the period statemented quarterly, or the document sits under a combined-statement view rather than the single account. Before concluding the month does not exist, check the neighbouring statements — if their balances chain across the gap, the period is covered by them. What genuinely cannot be downloaded can be requested as research copies from the bank.
SoFi Bank has no branches and no paper workflow: the documents area of the app or website is the whole archive, holding statements alongside tax documents and account notices. That is an advantage for bookkeeping — every period is a first-generation digital PDF, the cleanest possible input for conversion. It also means there is no branch fallback for very old periods, so download history earlier rather than later if an account may close. SoFi is app-first: statements live in the account centre of the app or website, and combined money accounts present checking and savings activity in one document family.
Online banking offers two different things that are easy to confuse: a transaction list (the running activity view, exportable as a spreadsheet) and the statement, a fixed document the bank issues for a closed period. Only the statement carries the printed opening and closing balances that reconciliation is checked against, and only the statement is the document lenders, landlords and underwriters ask for. Download the statement PDFs from Statements for anything that has to be proven; keep transaction exports for quick lookups.
It adds the extracted transactions to the statement's opening balance and compares the result with the closing balance — and checks running balances row by row where printed. Downloads that do not tie are flagged, never passed silently.
Separate months. Each monthly statement carries its own opening and closing balances, which is what the verification works from — and month-by-month files import in order without surgery.
Either reaches the statements, but the website's archive is often deeper and multi-month downloading is faster with a keyboard. Use the app for single recent months, the website for history.
Statements close on a cycle date set by the bank, which is often a few days before or after month end. Work in statement periods when you import — the closing date on the document is the period's end, whatever the calendar says — and let the balance chain, not the calendar, tell you whether a month is missing.
Usually, yes. The converter detects pages stored rotated and reads them in their displayed orientation; a genuinely sideways scan is reported honestly rather than guessed at. If a page is flagged, re-scanning that page flat and upright is the reliable fix.
