Every Regions Bank statement can prove itself — opening balance, transactions, closing balance. Reconciliation is simply running that proof before the numbers are used. This page shows how, month by month.
Regions statements typically organize activity by type before the daily balance detail.
Think of the statement as self-auditing. It opens at one balance, lists everything that moved, and closes at another — and if the list is complete and correctly read, the numbers cannot help but agree. Reconciliation is checking that they do, before the data is trusted downstream. Done at conversion time, the check has a practical shape: the file either reproduces the statement's balances or it is flagged with the exact rows where the walk breaks. The methodology page documents the method.
These are the general steps most banks follow for statement downloads; exact menu labels vary by bank and change over time.
Reconciliation goes faster when you know the document's habits. On a Regions Bank statement, check where fees and interest sit — inside the chronological flow or in a closing section of their own — because that is where unrecorded items hide. Confirm the statement's closing date matches the period you think you are closing; cycle dates drift from calendar months. And keep the source straight: reconcile against the statement filed under Statements in Regions Online Banking and the Regions app, the bank's own record of the month.
Monthly reconciliation is usually sold as tidiness, but its sharper value is detection. A transaction nobody recognizes, a fee that quietly changed size, a duplicate payment to the same vendor — all of them surface fastest when someone compares the books to the bank's record every single month, while amounts and memories are fresh. A year of unreconciled statements is where small problems go to become large ones; the monthly habit is the cheapest control a small organization owns.
Monthly, in step with the statements. Reconciling a year in one sitting is exactly the catch-up scenario the batch converter exists to shorten — and month-by-month chaining is what makes it provable.
They check different things. The conversion check proves the file matches the statement; the software reconciliation proves the books match the file. Doing both, in that order, is what makes a month solid.
Convert and check each account's statements separately — balances are per account — then reconcile each account in your software. Combined Excel exports keep one sheet per statement so accounts never blur.
A cheque written but not yet cleared, or a deposit recorded but not yet at the bank, makes honest books differ from the statement by exactly those items. They are listed, carried forward, and expected to clear next month — they are not errors.
Either that transaction is missing from the file or it is in twice. Search the converted file for the amount: zero hits means a dropped row, two hits where the statement shows one means a duplicate.
