Downloading statements sounds trivial until a year of them has to agree with itself. This guide covers the NBT Bank archive properly: where statements live, which file to take, and how to keep a long download complete.
These are the general steps most banks follow for statement downloads; exact menu labels vary by bank and change over time.
Statements are issued per account, and access follows the account's authorized signers. On a joint account either holder can usually download; on business accounts, users with view-only online access may or may not see the documents area depending on how the business enrolled. If the statements you need sit behind permissions you do not hold, the account owner downloading them directly is faster than any workaround — and the PDFs are all you need to hand over.
Expect the standard regional-bank set: monthly statements for checking and savings with opening and closing balances and a running balance on most layouts, card statements on the Previous / New Balance pattern where the bank issues its own cards, and periodic statements for CDs and money market accounts. Each type converts separately, against its own balances. NBT Bank statements typically organize activity by type on business accounts and chronologically on personal ones, with the period's balances printed on the first page. The institution is based in Norwich, New York; its statement archive is organized per account, newest period first.
Online banking offers two different things that are easy to confuse: a transaction list (the running activity view, exportable as a spreadsheet) and the statement, a fixed document the bank issues for a closed period. Only the statement carries the printed opening and closing balances that reconciliation is checked against, and only the statement is the document lenders, landlords and underwriters ask for. Download the statement PDFs from Statements & Documents for anything that has to be proven; keep transaction exports for quick lookups.
Closed-account statements usually require a direct request to the bank, since online access often ends at closure. The PDFs or scans they provide convert the same way.
Separate months. Each monthly statement carries its own opening and closing balances, which is what the verification works from — and month-by-month files import in order without surgery.
Both. The PDF is the record; the converted Excel or CSV is the working file. Sending the pair means any figure can be traced back to the bank's own document in one step.
Recent statements in online banking are self-serve. Research copies of older or closed-account statements are a bank service and policies vary — ask before ordering a long history, and check the online archive first.
Thirteen per account: the twelve months of the year plus the December statement before it, whose closing balance proves the year's opening figure. Add any account that was open for part of the year, including ones closed mid-year.
