Downloading statements sounds trivial until a year of them has to agree with itself. This guide covers the MidFirst Bank archive properly: where statements live, which file to take, and how to keep a long download complete.
Privacy: uploaded files and generated exports are stored only briefly to complete your download and are automatically deleted within 15 minutes. Files are never used for any other purpose.
These are the general steps most banks follow for statement downloads; exact menu labels vary by bank and change over time.
A month can be missing from an online archive for mundane reasons: the account opened or closed mid-cycle, the period statemented quarterly, or the document sits under a combined-statement view rather than the single account. Before concluding the month does not exist, check the neighbouring statements — if their balances chain across the gap, the period is covered by them. What genuinely cannot be downloaded can be requested as research copies from the bank.
Expect the standard regional-bank set: monthly statements for checking and savings with opening and closing balances and a running balance on most layouts, card statements on the Previous / New Balance pattern where the bank issues its own cards, and periodic statements for CDs and money market accounts. Each type converts separately, against its own balances. A MidFirst Bank statement typically shows the balance after each transaction on deposit accounts, so the closing figure can be traced row by row through the month. The institution is based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; its statement archive is organized per account, newest period first.
Online banking offers two different things that are easy to confuse: a transaction list (the running activity view, exportable as a spreadsheet) and the statement, a fixed document the bank issues for a closed period. Only the statement carries the printed opening and closing balances that reconciliation is checked against, and only the statement is the document lenders, landlords and underwriters ask for. Download the statement PDFs from Statements and Documents for anything that has to be proven; keep transaction exports for quick lookups.
It adds the extracted transactions to the statement's opening balance and compares the result with the closing balance — and checks running balances row by row where printed. Downloads that do not tie are flagged, never passed silently.
Separate months. Each monthly statement carries its own opening and closing balances, which is what the verification works from — and month-by-month files import in order without surgery.
Many banks offer a transaction download in CSV or OFX alongside the PDF statements. That covers recent activity, but the PDF statement remains the document with balances — the thing reconciliation is checked against.
Statements close on a cycle date set by the bank, which is often a few days before or after month end. Work in statement periods when you import — the closing date on the document is the period's end, whatever the calendar says — and let the balance chain, not the calendar, tell you whether a month is missing.
Thirteen per account: the twelve months of the year plus the December statement before it, whose closing balance proves the year's opening figure. Add any account that was open for part of the year, including ones closed mid-year.
