Reconciliation is the proof that the books and the bank agree. This page gives the month-end workflow for Global Credit Union statements and the fixes for when they do not tie.

As a credit union, Global Credit Union statements the membership rather than a single account: share savings, checking and sometimes loan activity are commonly combined in one document, opening with a summary of each account. Headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska, Global Credit Union issues every account's statements through the same online banking platform.
There is a quiet compound interest to reconciling monthly: each proven month makes the next one cheaper, because the opening balance never needs investigating. The expensive reconciliation is always the first one after a long gap, where every historical shortcut is still hiding. Whether the gap is behind you or ahead of you, the method is the same — prove the file against the statement at conversion, then prove the books against the file in the software. The methodology page documents how the first proof runs.
These are the general steps most banks follow for statement downloads; exact menu labels vary by bank and change over time.
One habit separates fast reconciliations from slow ones: read a Global Credit Union statement in the order the bank printed it before sorting it any other way. Running balances only make sense in print order, pending items cluster at period boundaries in print order, and the bank's own section subtotals — free checkpoints — exist only in print order. Convert the PDF from Statements & Documents in the Global Credit Union website and mobile app, walk it as printed, and let the accounting software do the reordering afterwards.
An account is only fully proven when two different comparisons agree: the file against the statement (was the data read correctly?) and the books against the file (was it entered and categorized without loss?). Skipping the first makes the second prove the wrong thing beautifully — the software will happily reconcile to a file that misread the statement. Keeping the two checks separate, in that order, is what makes a discrepancy localizable in minutes.
Monthly, in step with the statements. Reconciling a year in one sitting is exactly the catch-up scenario the batch converter exists to shorten — and month-by-month chaining is what makes it provable.
They check different things. The conversion check proves the file matches the statement; the software reconciliation proves the books match the file. Doing both, in that order, is what makes a month solid.
Convert and check each account's statements separately — balances are per account — then reconcile each account in your software. Combined Excel exports keep one sheet per statement so accounts never blur.
You can import in batches, but prove the months individually and in order. Three months reconciled as one blob hides which month owns a difference; the chain check needs each month's closing balance separately.
Usually not an error: running balances depend on the order transactions are walked, and the software may order same-day items differently from the bank. Agreement at the closing balance with every transaction present is the substance; mid-month ordering differences on the same posting date are cosmetic.
