Downloading a Chase statement PDF, step by step

  1. Sign in to Chase Online and the Chase Mobile app. Statement downloads are an ordinary online-banking task; no special permission is needed on a personal or business account you own.
  2. Choose the account and open its statements. Statements sit under Statements on the account page. If the account is new to online banking, they appear from its first closing date.
  3. Download by closing date. The archive is indexed by closing date. For a calendar-year job, you usually need thirteen statements — the December before the year through the December that ends it — so the opening balance is proven too.
  4. Convert a sample month first. Before downloading everything, convert one month and confirm it reconciles. Any layout surprise is cheapest to meet on a sample.
  5. Then pull the full history. With the sample proven, download the remaining months in one pass and convert them as a batch.

These are the general steps most banks follow for statement downloads; exact menu labels vary by bank and change over time.

Cycles, closing dates and archive depth

Statements close on a cycle date, not necessarily the last day of the month — note each account's closing day before planning a month-by-month import, because a statement month and a calendar month are not always the same thing. Online archives generally cover several years; deeper history is a bank research request, and scanned results still go through the full balance check.

Statement types across a big-bank account list

A national bank relationship usually spans several statement families: checking and savings with opening/closing balances, money market accounts on the same pattern, CDs that may statement quarterly or at term events, and credit cards on the Previous / New Balance pattern. Each family converts on its own check. Before a cleanup, inventory which families the relationship actually has — the card statements are the ones most often forgotten. Chase statements group activity into sections — deposits and additions, card withdrawals, electronic withdrawals and fees — and many account types also print a daily ending balance table.

Before you download: a two-minute checklist

Closed accounts and former customers

Online access usually ends when an account closes, and with it the self-serve archive. Former customers can typically still obtain statement copies by request — expect identity verification and a research turnaround rather than an instant download. Order them before the cleanup deadline, not during it. When the copies arrive as paper or scans, they convert through the OCR route and are reconciled against their printed balances like any other statement.

Questions and answers

Paper or eStatement — does it matter for conversion?

The digital PDF is always the cleanest input. A paper statement can be scanned flat at a steady resolution and converted through OCR; its result is reconciled and flagged rows should be reviewed against the scan.

What does the reconciliation check do with the download?

It adds the extracted transactions to the statement's opening balance and compares the result with the closing balance — and checks running balances row by row where printed. Downloads that do not tie are flagged, never passed silently.

Should I download one combined file or separate months?

Separate months. Each monthly statement carries its own opening and closing balances, which is what the verification works from — and month-by-month files import in order without surgery.

Can I download Chase statements for my bookkeeper?

Yes — that is the normal flow. Download the PDFs and send them as issued; your bookkeeper converts and verifies them. Never send online banking passwords; statements are all a bookkeeper needs from the bank.

The archive shows a month missing. What happened?

Common causes: the account statemented quarterly in that period, the account was opened or closed mid-cycle, or the statement sits under a combined-statement view. Check the neighbouring months' balances — if they chain, the period is covered.
