Everything starts with the PDF. Here is where Axos Bank keeps its statements, how far back the archive reaches, and how to pull exactly the months you need.

These are the general steps most banks follow for statement downloads; exact menu labels vary by bank and change over time.
For catch-up work the limiting factor is rarely conversion — it is archive depth. Online banking usually keeps a rolling multi-year archive of statement PDFs. Older than that, request research copies from the bank; if they arrive as paper or scans, the converter reads them with OCR and reconciles the result against the printed balances exactly as it does for digital PDFs.
Axos Bank has no branches and no paper workflow: the documents area of the app or website is the whole archive, holding statements alongside tax documents and account notices. That is an advantage for bookkeeping — every period is a first-generation digital PDF, the cleanest possible input for conversion. It also means there is no branch fallback for very old periods, so download history earlier rather than later if an account may close. As an online bank, Axos Bank issues statements purely as PDFs from the app or website; deposit accounts print opening and closing balances for each period. Axos Bank is a online bank headquartered in San Diego, California.
Online banking offers two different things that are easy to confuse: a transaction list (the running activity view, exportable as a spreadsheet) and the statement, a fixed document the bank issues for a closed period. Only the statement carries the printed opening and closing balances that reconciliation is checked against, and only the statement is the document lenders, landlords and underwriters ask for. Download the statement PDFs from Statements and Documents for anything that has to be proven; keep transaction exports for quick lookups.
It adds the extracted transactions to the statement's opening balance and compares the result with the closing balance — and checks running balances row by row where printed. Downloads that do not tie are flagged, never passed silently.
Common causes: the account statemented quarterly in that period, the account was opened or closed mid-cycle, or the statement sits under a combined-statement view. Check the neighbouring months' balances — if they chain, the period is covered.
Many banks offer a transaction download in CSV or OFX alongside the PDF statements. That covers recent activity, but the PDF statement remains the document with balances — the thing reconciliation is checked against.
Some relationships offer combined statements covering several accounts in one PDF. Download it once, then convert each account's section separately so every account keeps its own balance check.
Thirteen per account: the twelve months of the year plus the December statement before it, whose closing balance proves the year's opening figure. Add any account that was open for part of the year, including ones closed mid-year.
